Basketball Game Preview: Providence Day Chargers vs. Charlotte Catholic Cougars

The Providence Day Chargers will face off against the Charlotte Catholic Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Providence Day has four straight wins, Charlotte Catholic has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Providence Day is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Lincoln Charter 71-35 on Tuesday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Eagles are ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Providence Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ginny Anne Dumont out in front who went 8 for 16 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Dumont's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Ramsden, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Charlotte Country Day School on Friday and fell 60-57.

Providence Day has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Charlotte Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Providence Day came up short against Charlotte Catholic when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 50-39. Can Providence Day avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
