Softball Game Preview: Madison Trojans vs. Morenci Bulldogs

The Madison Trojans will face off against the Morenci Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Madison managed to slip by Clinton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans came up short against the Redwolves on Tuesday, falling 8-2. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kendall Gilbertson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Morenci put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let Britton Deerfield get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Morenci's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-5.

Madison couldn't quite finish off Morenci in their previous matchup back in May of 2016 and fell 10-8. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
