Basketball Recap: Southern Wayne Takes a Loss

After flying high against Smithfield-Selma last Friday, Southern Wayne came back down to earth. The Southern Wayne Saints took a blow against the East Wake Warriors on Monday, falling 75-42. The loss continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost eight in a row.

Despite the defeat, Southern Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kairell Evans went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points and seven boards. Evans is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 55% in the last six games he's played. Demetrius Elliot was another key player, putting up ten points.

Southern Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for East Wake, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.

Southern Wayne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 75-72 defeat against Fike on the 13th. As for East Wake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-54 win against South Johnston on the 11th.
