Softball Game Preview: El Campo Ricebirds vs. Sweeny Bulldogs

The El Campo Ricebirds will take on the Sweeny Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Campo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, El Campo got the win against Brazosport by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Ricebirds, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kamryn Mears made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Mears was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Presley Bacak was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mac'Yia Warner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Sweeny was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Brazosport. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since February 11th.

Sweeny's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for El Campo, their victory bumped their record up to 17-6-1.

Sweeny's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: El Campo has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. It's a different story for Sweeny, though, as they've only averaged .320. Will they be able to contain El Campo's hitters?

Everything went El Campo's way against Sweeny in their previous meeting back in March, as El Campo made off with a 13-2 win. Will the Ricebirds repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
