Softball Recap: Doniphan West Starts Season with Victory Against Onaga

Doniphan West took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They put the hurt on the Onaga Buffaloes with a sharp 9-1 victory. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 15-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Clara Feighner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Brennah Edie and H'Leigha Idol did most of the damage at the plate: Edie scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Idol scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Denton, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Onaga's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat Doniphan West by a score of 5-3 later that day.
