Football Recap: Lakeland Regional Lancers vs. Sparta Spartans
After flying high against Governor Livingston last Thursday, Lakeland Regional came back down to earth. The game between the Lakeland Regional Lancers and the Sparta Spartans wasn't particularly close, with the Lakeland Regional Lancers falling 31-17. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.
Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremy O'Hernandez, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Another passer making a difference was Collin Sabric, who threw for 156 yards and a touchdown.
Lakeland Regional wouldn't let Sparta keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Greg Ehrmann was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
Lakeland Regional's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Sparta, they pushed their record up to 1-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Lakeland Regional will face off against Jefferson Township at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sparta, they will host Roxbury at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
