Softball Recap: Lourdes Academy Makes It Five in a Row at Home

While Lourdes Academy's win against Mater Bay Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lourdes Academy had just enough and edged out the Mater Bay Academy Rays 7-6. That's more bragging rights for Lourdes Academy, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mia Rivera spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Valerie Portuondo was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristina Alfonso, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Lourdes Academy pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Mater Bay Academy, their record now sits at 5-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lourdes Academy will be taking part in a tournament against Chaminade-Madonna at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Mater Bay Academy, they will host Ferguson at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Mater Bay Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
