Baseball Game Preview: Westside Wolverines vs. Clay Blue Devils

The Westside Wolverines will take on the Clay Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Westside is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Riverside, sneaking past 10-9. The win was some much needed relief for the Wolverines as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Zion Asberry was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Westside: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-16 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Clay never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Keystone Heights. The Blue Devils not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 6th (when they won 13-0).

Rylan McMahan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JC Rosette, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Tyler Gunsaulus was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Westside's record now sits at 2-17. As for Clay, their record is now 12-13.
