Softball Recap: Bentonville Starts Season with Win on the Road

Bentonville had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Springdale Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won six contests in a row dating back to last season.

Darby Burnett looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Kierra Burkhart and Kylee Wyman did most of the damage at the plate: Burkhart scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Wyman scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Bella Mears was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Looking ahead, Bentonville will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Rogers at 5:00 p.m. As for Springdale, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against Northside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springdale is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
