WPIAL AAA Northeastern recap Oct. 3, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Knoch, who took down 50th ranked Knoch, 20-17.

Mars extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAA Northeastern this week by beating Greensburg Salem, 49-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Fightin' Planets.

Derry's dynamic duo of Robbie Hebenthal and Josh Wannarnaker proved tough for Hollidaysburg to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hebenthal threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns and Wannarnaker had 78 yards receiving. Tyler Matusak helped Derry's passing attack out by catching two balls for 53 yards.

Dane Brown was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 71 yards on eight carries as Franklin Regional lost to the Golden Tigers. Nico Lodovico also contributed to the rushing game with 12 yards on the ground.

Derry's Hebenthal and Wannarnaker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hebenthal has thrown for 614 yards this season, while Wannarnaker, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 23 catches for 379 yards. The Knights' Benjamin Tackett leads the league in rushing yards with 614.

A big matchup in WPIAL AAA Northeastern this week will be when Knoch takes on the Panthers. Mike King's team is in second place, while Franklin Regional is in fourth place.

Highlands moved up to 316 from 397 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 28-17 win over Indiana helped the Golden Rams improve their standing.
