Basketball Recap: Northwest Takes a Loss

If Northwest was riding high fresh off their 57-33 takedown of South Gallia last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Northwest Mohawks came up short against the Symmes Valley Vikings on Friday, falling 65-45. The Mohawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Leading Symmes Valley to victory were Ethan Smith and Bronx Carpenter. Smith went 12 of 22 en route to 30 points in addition to six boards and six steals, while Carpenter went 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Smith's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Willie Jones was another key player, putting up six points.

Northwest has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Symmes Valley, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

Northwest will take on East at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Northwest is facing East at the right time seeing as East is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Symmes Valley, they will head out to face off against St. Joseph Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
