Basketball Recap: Gadsden Takes a Loss

Gadsden was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Centennial Hawks, falling 44-18. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-23 back in January.

Centennial found their leader in sophomore Skyler De La Cruz, who went 5-for-11 en route to 11 points and four steals. De La Cruz is becoming a predictor of Centennial's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is undefeated (and 6-13 when she doesn't). Alanna Perrault was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Gadsden's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Centennial, they pushed their record up to 10-13 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Gadsden will challenge Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mayfield will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something Gadsden surely won't give up without a fight. As for Centennial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
