Basketball Recap: Wyatt King's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bethune over South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett]

Bethune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] Patriots. The Bobcats lost against the Patriots in their previous head to head back in February of 2015, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 79-11 score last time.

Bethune's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt King, who posted six points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave King a new career-high in assists (four). Josh Salinas was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Bethune was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.4.

South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett]'s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dallas Calzonetti led the charge by going 7-for-14 on his way to 19 points. South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] is undefeated when Calzonetti posts 15 or more points, but 2-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of LJ Willis, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards.

Bethune's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett], their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11.

Bethune has already played their next contest, a 55-51 win against Flagler on the 14th. As for South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett], they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-39 loss against Eads on the 13th.
