Basketball Game Preview: Bernalillo Spartans vs. Grants Pirates

Bernalillo and Grants are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Bernalillo Spartans will face off against the Grants Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, Bernalillo was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 63-57 to Highland. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Grants made easy work of Zuni on Wednesday and carried off an 80-55 win. The Pirates pushed the score to 62-42 by the end of the third, a deficit the Thunderbirds had little chance of recovering from.

Grants is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Bernalillo, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Bernalillo couldn't quite finish off Grants in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 76-73. Can Bernalillo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
