Basketball Recap: Elkin Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 23-23 at halftime, Elkin was not quite Surry Central's equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 66-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Surry Central Golden Eagles. The loss continues a trend for the Buckin' Elks in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Leading Surry Central to victory were Tripp Mcmillen and Jax Whitaker. Mcmillen dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards, while Whitaker went 5 of 7 on his way to 20 points. The contest was Mcmillen's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mason Jewell, who posted six points.

Elkin's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Surry Central, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkin will host Starmount at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Surry Central, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Surry Central Golden Eagles take on the Forbush Falcons at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Surry Central is facing Forbush at the right time seeing as Forbush is stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
