Basketball Recap: Jaxon Slaugh's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Field over Green Canyon

West Field lost against Green Canyon back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The West Field Longhorns lost 63-41 to the Green Canyon Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Wolves are ranked 12th).

West Field lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaxon Slaugh, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Harrison, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

It was another big night for Jude Haigh, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc to rack up 32 points for Green Canyon. What's more, Haigh also posted a 71% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Gavin Crane was another key player, putting up eight points.

West Field has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Green Canyon, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-1.

Coming up, West Field will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Bear River at 7:00 p.m. West Field is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. Green Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
