Preview: Winnebago Indians vs. Homer Knights

Winnebago has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Homer Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Winnebago focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Winnebago's game was all tied up 28-28 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Creighton by a score of 51-38.

Winnebago relied on the efforts of Jolon Blackbird, who scored 15 points along with two steals and two blocks, and Tressa BigBear, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. BigBear hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Charlize Frenchman, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, Homer didn't have too much trouble with the Wolfpack on the road on Tuesday as they won 41-27. The win made it back-to-back wins for Homer.

Homer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lilly Harris, who scored 15 points along with seven steals. Harris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Alexandra Albrecht was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Winnebago's record now sits at 5-9. As for Homer, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Winnebago have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Homer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Winnebago beat the Knights 53-45 when the teams last played back in November of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winnebago since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
