Baseball Recap: Somerset Beats Central Cambria for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Somerset had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Central Cambria Red Devils. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Braeden Flower spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Callen Miller and Zane Hagans did most of the damage at the plate: Miller went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Hagans got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Hagans a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Means, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Somerset always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Cambria only posted an OBP of .143.

Somerset's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Central Cambria, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset will take on Bellefonte at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Central Cambria, they will challenge Penns Valley Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
