Baseball Recap: Jones Find Success

Jones took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Bethel Christian Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Jones narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bethel Christian Academy 3-1. This was a revenge game for Jones: when they faced off against Bethel Christian Academy last Monday, they had to take a 14-7 defeat.

Garris Andrews made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Jones is 2-1 when Andrews allowstwo or fewer earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Andrews was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Andrews wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was William Meadows, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The win got Jones back to even at 4-4. As for Bethel Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jones will venture away from home to challenge East Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Carteret will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Jones surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bethel Christian Academy, they will head out to take on Southside Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethel Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
