Preview: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Cary Christian Knights
The Halifax Academy Vikings will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Cary Christian Knights at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Halifax Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Lawrence Academy/Albemarle School with a sharp 32-8 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Halifax Academy just coasted through the last quarter.
It was another big night for Braxton Hammack, who rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. Hammack is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played.
Meanwhile, Cary Christian faced St. David's in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cary Christian took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 76-28 win over St. David's. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Cary Christian.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cary Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reed Harvey, who threw for 436 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Harvey is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last six games he's played. Jake Cesarz was another key contributor, picking up 265 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Halifax Academy's victory was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0. As for Cary Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Halifax Academy against Cary Christian in their previous meeting back in September of 2016 as the squad secured a 55-18 victory. Will Halifax Academy repeat their success, or does Cary Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
