Baseball Recap: Schaumburg Christian's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Schaumburg Christian took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lake Forest Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Conquerors narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Caxys 11-10. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Conquerors as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Jake Vandermeir was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vander Herman, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. James Carey was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Lake Forest Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Schaumburg Christian will welcome South Beloit at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Forest Academy, they will challenge Northridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
