Basketball Recap: Ava Zicchinelli's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Miller Place over Bayport-Blue Point

Miller Place managed to keep up with Bayport-Blue Point until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Miller Place Panthers came up short against the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms, falling 59-37. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Phantoms: they've now lost eight in a row.

Miller Place's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Zicchinelli, who posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Julie Orenzo, who put up eight points.

Miller Place's record is now 2-10. As for Bayport-Blue Point, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Miller Place Panthers challenge the Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bayport-Blue Point, they will square off against Kings Park at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
