Irvine gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Segerstrom Jaguars, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vaqueros have posted since March 29, 2024.
Jason Alderson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Irvine's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Owen Featherston, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, Featherston also posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
Coincidentally, Irvine and Segerstrom will both be playing Laguna Hills the next time they take the field. Irvine will host Laguna Hills at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Segerstrom will head out to face them at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
