Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Snags 11th Victory in Last 12 Games

Mt. Vernon had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Sarcoxie on Monday. The Mountaineers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears a 15-0 shutout. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Cheyenne Bieber was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rae Downing, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Sarcoxie, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will host Strafford at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sarcoxie, they will face off against Miller at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
