Baseball Game Preview: Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons vs. St. John's Cadets

Our Lady of Good Counsel hasn't had much luck against St. John recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Cadets at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Our Lady of Good Counsel 4, St. John's 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Our Lady of Good Counsel is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Paul VI, who was ranked 21st in their home state at the time (Our Lady of Good Counsel was ranked 19th). The Falcons lost 12-0 to the Panthers on Saturday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Falcons were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, St. John's came tearing into Saturday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Stags as they made off with a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cadets, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

St. John's pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.

Our Lady of Good Counsel came out on top in a nail-biter against St. John's in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Cadets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
