Clewiston had won four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 9-11 to make it five. They were the clear victors by a 22-4 margin over the Glades Day Gators. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Rocco Mann was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Mann was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Braylin Herrera was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Clayton Sparks was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Clewiston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
As for Glades Day, they now have a losing record of 8-9. They have struggled against Clewiston recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
On Glades Day's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zeth Villareal, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. The Gators are 4-1 when Villareal posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise.
Coming up, Clewiston will be playing at home against Avon Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Glades Day, they are taking a road trip to challenge Pahokee at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
