Softball Game Preview: West St. John Rams vs. St. Martin's Episcopal Saints

West St. John is 1-6 against St. Martin's Episcopal since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The West St. John Rams will look to defend their home field against the St. Martin's Episcopal Saints at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Wednesday, everything went West St. John's way against Donaldsonville as West St. John made off with an 18-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Martin's Episcopal). They blew past East Jefferson 21-1 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saints.

Gianna Mandella made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in February of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, St. Martin's Episcopal got a massive performance out of Eliza Didriksen, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave Didriksen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophie Miller, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

The victory got West St. John back to even at 3-3. As for St. Martin's Episcopal, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.

West St. John might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from St. Martin's Episcopal in their previous meeting back in March of 2024.
