Basketball Game Preview: Hurricane Tigers vs. Cedar Reds

Hurricane is 1-9 against Cedar since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Hurricane Tigers will look to defend their home court against the Cedar Reds at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Hurricane's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.

It was a proper cat-fight when Hurricane took on Pine View on Friday. Hurricane strolled past Pine View with points to spare, taking the game 67-51.

Hurricane's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but RJ Hurst led the charge by going 7 for 15 en route to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. What's more, Hurst also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Brigham Kemp, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points.

Hurricane smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Cedar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost to Dixie at home by a 68-52 margin. While losing is never fun, the Reds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Flyers are ranked 22nd).

Cedar's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Hurricane, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.

Hurricane strolled past Cedar in their previous matchup on Monday by a score of 58-44. Will Hurricane repeat their success, or does Cedar have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
