Basketball Recap: Bishop Verot Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Bishop Verot won the last time they faced Oasis and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bishop Verot Vikings took down the Oasis Sharks 55-37. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Sharks are ranked 329th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bishop Verot had a senior duo take command as Austin Leslie dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards and Jerry Ashley dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 boards. Those 17 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Ashley. Another player making a difference was Gavin Williams, who posted 11 points.

Oasis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brendan Overbaugh, who earned 11 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Llyod Baptiste, who put up five points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

The win made it two in a row for Bishop Verot and bumps their season record up to 11-5. As for Oasis, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6.

Bishop Verot didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-45 victory against Monsignor Pace on the 11th. As for Oasis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-55 loss against Gateway Charter on the 10th.
