Baseball Recap: Longmeadow Victorious

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Longmeadow nor Maloney made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Lancers walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Spartans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.

Longmeadow got a great performance from B Koegel as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Koegel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, C Wagner and B Harrington did most of the damage at the plate: Wagner went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Harrington went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Wagner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of A Santiago, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Longmeadow's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Maloney, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Longmeadow will venture away from home to face off against West Springfield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maloney, they will head out to take on New Britain at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Hurricanes have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
