Baseball Recap: Bunnell Comes Up Short

Bunnell had lost six straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-10 to make it seven. They lost 15-0 to the New Fairfield Rebels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for New Fairfield, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For New Fairfield's part, Carter Bowteck looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bowteck has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nicolas Martini was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for New Fairfield: the team is 7-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Makarewicz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Bunnell will take on rival Weston at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, New Fairfield is set to challenge their familiar foe Joel Barlow at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
