Basketball Recap: Eden Prairie Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Hopkins

On Tuesday, Eden Prairie faced Hopkins in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eden Prairie Eagles fell just short of the Hopkins Royals by a score of 66-64. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 83-66 back in January.

Eden Prairie's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rae Ehrman, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Ehrman is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Tori Schlagel was another key player, putting up 14 points along with six assists and five boards.

The defeat snapped Eden Prairie's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 17-4 record. As for Hopkins, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.

Eden Prairie will square off against Wayzata at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wayzata knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 22 matchups -- so hopefully Eden Prairie likes a good challenge. As for Hopkins, they will challenge Edina at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Hopkins' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Edina has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
