Volleyball Recap: Gabe Tocco's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Clairemont over El Cajon Valley

The Clairemont Chieftains came up short against the El Cajon Valley Braves on Monday and fell 3-1. The Chieftains have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Clairemont came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Clairemont lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gabe Tocco, who had 13 blocks and ten kills. He has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Makoa Miner, who had 20 kills and three blocks.

Clairemont's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for El Cajon Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season.

Clairemont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against Scripps Ranch on the 9th. As for El Cajon Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Granite Hills at 6:30 p.m. on the 22nd. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Braves surely won't give up without a fight.
