Football Recap: Mcdowell Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for McDowell, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down the Cathedral Prep Ramblers 45-27 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Ramblers: they've now won three in a row.

Brody Bonsell had a dynamite game, rushing for 178 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Cathedral Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Oblich, who picked up 104 receiving yards and three scores. Oblich is becoming a predictor of the Ramblers' success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Davin Friedman was another key player, throwing for 265 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt.

McDowell's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Cathedral Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

McDowell will square off against Austintown-Fitch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' defense has only allowed 9.7 points per game this season, so the Trojans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Cathedral Prep, they will face off against Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
