Football Game Preview: Buena Bulldogs vs. Royal Highlanders + How To Watch

The Buena Bulldogs will take on the Royal Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Buena has given up an average of 43.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Buena is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Ventura on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Bulldogs were outmatched by the Cougars and fell 62-13. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-0.

Jaxon Roberts put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns. He has become a key player for Buena: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Royal had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Highlanders just coasted through the last quarter.

Buena better keep an eye on Landen Murray. He was instrumental in Royal's win, rushing for 161 yards and one TD on only 15 carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards and one score.

Royal was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 236 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Buena has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Royal, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Buena has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Royal struggles in that department as they've been averaging 205.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Buena against Royal when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 50-21 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Highlanders' Caden Pugh, who rushed for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bulldogs to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
