Basketball Recap: North Newton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Frankfort on Friday, North Newton came back down to earth. The North Newton Spartans fell 36-28 to the North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers on Friday. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 45-21 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why North Newton lost, don't look at June Busboom. Despite the final result, she posted 13 points and four steals. Busboom has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Piper Ramey was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds for North Montgomery. Another player making a difference was Caelyn Carpenter, who put up five points and three steals.

North Newton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for North Montgomery, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Newton will venture away from home to take on Tri-County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tri-County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season. As for North Montgomery, they will head out on the road to square off against North Putnam at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Montgomery is facing North Putnam at the right time seeing as North Putnam is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
