Baseball Recap: Maplesville Drops Highest Score of Season Against Montevallo

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maplesville). They had just enough and edged out the Montevallo Bulldogs 20-19. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted since April 8, 2024.

Braden Atcheson was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Maplesville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-12 when he doesn't). Cody Jones was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Atcheson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Maplesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Maplesville's victory bumped their record up to 3-13. As for Montevallo, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Maplesville and Montevallo could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. Maplesville (ranked 342nd) will meet Fayetteville (ranked 165th) at 5:00 p.m. on the 31st. Meanwhile, Montevallo will square off against Vincent at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st down 175 places (232 vs. 57).
