Basketball Recap: Elkhart Comes Up Short

Elkhart lost against Penn back in March of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Elkhart Lions fell 54-41 to the Penn Kingsmen. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Kingsmen are ranked 72nd).

Penn found their leader in freshman Caleb Coolman, who posted 19 points and seven boards. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for Coolman. Another player making a difference was Peyton Miamba, who had nine points.

Elkhart's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Penn, they moved to 5-5 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Elkhart will be playing at home against Mishawaka Marian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mishawaka Marian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. Penn has already played their next contest, a 65-36 victory against Valparaiso on the 11th.
