Basketball Recap: Aiken Takes a Loss

After flying high against Midland Valley last Tuesday, Aiken came back down to earth. The Aiken Fighting Green Hornets took a blow against the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles on Friday, falling 58-29.

When it comes to explaining why Aiken lost, don't look at Scotland Staley. Despite the final result, she posted seven points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Aiken smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray Collegiate Academy only pulled down nine offensive boards.

Kadence Walker-Lee was her usual excellent self, going 12 of 16 en route to 25 points and eight boards for Gray Collegiate Academy. The dominant performance gave Walker-Lee a new career-high in points. Kiley Freeman was another key player, putting up 14 points and four steals.

Aiken's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Aiken wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 74-42 loss against Fountain Inn on the 18th. Gray Collegiate Academy has also already played their next game, a 41-34 defeat against Dutch Fork on the 18th.
