Softball Game Preview: DeKalb Barbs vs. Hampshire Whip-Purs

The DeKalb Barbs are taking a road trip to face off against the Hampshire Whip-Purs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

DeKalb proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past ITW David Speer Academy 18-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Barbs have posted since March 21, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Isabel Aranda, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and three doubles. Another player making a difference was Alaynna Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

DeKalb hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Hampshire waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 11-1 win. The Whip-Purs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

DeKalb's record now sits at 3-0. As for Hampshire, their record is now 4-1.
