Baseball Game Preview: Pueblo Warriors vs. Desert View Jaguars

For the second straight game, Pueblo will face off against Desert View. Pueblo will welcome Desert View at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pueblo has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Pueblo fell victim to Desert View and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 19-0 to the Jaguars. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.

For Desert View's part, Orlando Pinedo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pinedo has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Cristobal Lorta was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Luis Bracamonte was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Desert View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Desert View pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 6.8 strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Pueblo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pueblo has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Desert View struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
