Baseball Recap: River Ridge Finds Playoff Glory Versus Zephyrhills

It's playoff time, and River Ridge had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Zephyrhills Bulldogs 11-1 on Monday. Considering the Royal Knights have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

River Ridge got a great performance from Peter Deloreto as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Deloreto has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brayden VanFossen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack French, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs and one triple.

River Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zephyrhills only posted an OBP of .118.

River Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Zephyrhills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season.

River Ridge will face off against Springstead at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zephyrhills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
