Basketball Recap: Newman International Academy Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Newman International Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a blow against Kingdom Collegiate Academy, falling 66-34. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 765th, while Kingdom Collegiate Academy are ranked 356th).

Newman International Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being TJ Styles, who posted ten points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelvin Tanimowo, who put up five points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Newman International Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Newman International Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Kingdom Collegiate Academy, they moved to 8-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

The Warriors didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-45 victory against the Warriors on the 14th. As for Kingdom Collegiate Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-54 win against Episcopal School of Dallas on the 14th.
