Soccer Game Preview: Layton vs. Davis

Layton is 1-9 against Davis since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Darts at 3:30 p.m. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.

Layton will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Weber, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lancers beat the Warriors by a goal, winning 4-3. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for Layton considering their one-goal performance the matchup before.

They hit Weber with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Joseph Rudolphi (2), Cameron Whitesides, and Trey Olsen.

Meanwhile, Davis waltzed into their contest on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Titans. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Davis' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Utah soccer rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Syracuse are ranked 48th).

Davis' win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Layton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Layton couldn't quite get it done against Davis in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 2-0. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
