Baseball Recap: Hiawatha Has No Trouble Against Alden-Hebron

Hiawatha's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They blew past the Alden-Hebron Green Giants 11-1. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Colby Wylde made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Hiawatha's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Wylde was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, Thomas Giebel looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Hiawatha: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Tommy Butler, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Hiawatha is 2-1 when Butler posts three or more hits, but 2-3 otherwise. Eli Beaver also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Hiawatha always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alden-Hebron only posted an OBP of .333.

Hiawatha has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Alden-Hebron, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Green Giants beat Hiawatha by a score of 8-6 later that day.
