Jerry Birdlow commands the offense for a Tigers win

Recap: Slidell Tigers vs. East Jefferson Warriors

The Slidell Tigers came tearing into Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They rang in the new year with a 56-47 victory over East Jefferson. Given Slidell's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while East Jefferson is ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Slidell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jerry Birdlow, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Jereme Landor was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.

Slidell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for East Jefferson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.

Slidell will head out on the road to face off against Frederick A. Douglass at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Jefferson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklinton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
