Baseball Game Preview: Frazee Hornets vs. Pelican Rapids Vikings

The Frazee Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Pelican Rapids Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Frazee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Frazee had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday. The Hornets put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 18-1 victory. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Frazee got a massive performance out of Conner Erickson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Mekalson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Frazee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Pelican Rapids was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 23-5 to Staples-Motley. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Vikings' highest-scoring match to date.

Frazee now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Pelican Rapids, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Frazee skirted past Pelican Rapids 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
