Hopewell-Loudon came out on top against Danbury  on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Chieftains blew past the Lakers 12-2. The Chieftains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six  runs or more this season.
 Araceli Velasquez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned  (and one unearned) run on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in three consecutive appearances.
 At the plate, Hopewell-Loudon got a  massive  performance out of  Sidney Brickner, who  went 2-for-3 with one  home run, one  stolen base,  and two  RBI. That  home run was  Brickner's first of the season. Another player making a difference was  Avery Landers, who  went 2-for-4 with three  RBI, two  runs,  and one  double.
Hopewell-Loudon is  on a roll lately: they've  won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record  this season. Those  wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Danbury,  this is the second loss in a row for them and  nudges their season record down to 11-8.
 Hopewell-Loudon and Danbury are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Chieftains will take on St. Mary Central Catholic at 5:00  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Danbury, they will be taking part in a tournament against Cardinal Stritch  at 5:00  p.m.  on Friday. The Lakers are facing the Cardinals at the right time seeing as the Cardinals are stuck on  an  eight-game losing streak.
