Soccer Game Preview: El Capitan vs. Mount Miguel

El Capitan and Mount Miguel are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The El Capitan Vaqueros will welcome the Mount Miguel Matadors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

El Capitan fell victim to Grossmont and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They lost 4-0 to the Foothillers. The loss continues a trend for the Vaqueros in their matchups with the Foothillers: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Mount Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against Granite Hills, falling 3-0. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 979th, while the Eagles are ranked 455th).

El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 5-7-5. As for Mount Miguel, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9-2.

El Capitan came out on top in a nail-biter against Mount Miguel when the teams last played back in December of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Does El Capitan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Miguel turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
