Baseball Recap: California Comes Up Short

California was the 4-3 winner over Alameda when they last played one another back in May of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Grizzlies took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets on Friday. The matchup marked the Grizzlies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Matthew Carano was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, Ethan Thompson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

California is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5-1. As for Alameda, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. California will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Livermore at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th. This will be the Grizzlies' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Alameda, they will challenge Encinal at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
